2020 was a rocky year, with many events cancelled, but in 2021 we went back to the new “normal”, with some health security rules for everyone. We are getting closer to the end of the year – December is coming, and with it, Christmas, the holidays from school, sending letters to Santa Claus, the present frenzy buying and, of course, the return of the Christmas markets and fairs.
Today, Puzzle Family recommends 7 themed markets to visit in Portugal, filled with the Christmas spirit of this season, where you can find activities and entertainment for the younger ones, as well as the best presents for the adults.
Óbidos the Christmas Village
From the 30th of November until the 2nd of January, this market returns with many activities for all ages – there’s an ice rink, a ferris wheel, an ice ramp, trampolines, a Christmas train, a virtual reality simulator, facial paintings, Santa Claus’ house, plus concerts and shows!
The ticket price starts at 5€ and there’s even family packs from 24€. You can buy them online or at the fair.

Christmas festivities are back in Leiria with turning on the light decorations on the 26th of November, and the arrival of Santa Claus the following day, at 17h.
Until the 6th of January, in the center of Leiria, there’s many activities and shows for all ages! You can find a merry-go-round, an ice rink, a train, street food to please everyone, handicraft booths and, of course, Santa Claus’ house!
The shows and activities have a small fee, but it promises happy moments for the whole family!

Perlim, Santa Maria da Feira
The magic kingdom of Perlim and PimPim, the elves, returns this year to celebrate Christmas and to create the biggest and most original themed Christmas park in Portugal!
Starting on the 1st of December and until the 30th, for 23 days, the gates to this magical fair will be open, full of activities and shows for kids, while also creating unforgettable moments for the whole family.
The park is open from 13h30 until 19h and the price of the tickets start at 6€ for kids and 7€ for adults. There’s also an event pass that gives you access to all the days of the event, starting at 12€.

Lisboa Wonderland is back this year from the 1st of December until the 2nd of January, in the usual place, Eduardo VII Park. There’s still many surprises to come, but the return of the giant ferris wheel and the ice rink are certain.
For the little ones, there’s the Kids Space to explore their creativity, the Santa Claus village, the merry-go-round and the train, as well as many workshops for the family to do together. Of course, there’s also the Christmas market, with more than 60 handicraft booths, sweets, fashion and accessories, to choose your christmas presents.
As usual, there’s no entry fee for the event.

The Magic Castle, Montemor-o-velho
Starting on the 2nd of December until the 30th, you can visit a magical castle with many activities for all ages and taste. In this castle full of magic everyone can have fun at the ice rink, explore science, Santa Claus, canopy tours or slide, there’s also shows, you can even walk with animals or simply enjoy the snow!
The price of the ticket starts at 3€, and there’s also family packs where the more expensive ticket is free!

Christmas and New Year Festivities in Madeira
This is also usual in Madeira’s program, which on the 1st of December, with the inauguration of the decorative lights. This year, the program has various cultural, religious, ethnographic and artistic manifestations, as well as the usual fireworks during the new year.
There’s also the Christmas market with various stands, decorative lights, shows and workshops for everyone.

Natalândia e Christmas in Lagos
Unlike other markets and fairs in this list, the one in Lagos happens in different parts and places, in a collaboration to create magical moments during December. While most of the planned activities begin on the 1st of December, the long awaited arrival of Santa Claus only happens on the 4th, at 15h in Praça do Infante. The event and its activities will end on the 6th of January.
You can find the ice rink, street food, concerts and theater, the local market and much more! There’s even many activities at the Zoo, in their own event called “Natalândia”, where the younger ones can play in the inflatables, give Santa Claus a letter, and see more than 180 species of animals that exist at the zoo!
If possible, we suggest visiting these markets during the week, to avoid queues and crowds. In the colder days, don’t forget to bring a coat, gloves, beanies, the face mask and hand sanitizer, and, of course, your very own Puzzle Family Christmas sweatshirt!
